Reflections

“How shall freedom be defended? By arms when it is attacked by arms, by truth when it is attacked by lies, by faith when it is attacked by authoritarian dogma. Always, in the final act, by determination and faith.”

― Archibald MacLeish

The Philippines:On the Eve of National Destruction (May 8, 2016)

“Ang poot walang nililikha kundi mga dambuhala, mga kasamaan, mga salarin.
Tanging ang tunay na pag-ibig lamang ang nakakalikha ng mga bagay na tunay na kahanga-hanga.”
― José Rizal, El Filibusterismo
Reflections
“When a people is denied light, home, freedom, justice, all the good things without which life is not possible, and which constitute man's patrimony, a person has the right to deal with the people who despoil him, like a thief who assaults us in the roadway. No qualifications, no exceptions.”
― José Rizal
I wish to show those who deny us patriotism that we know how to die for our country and convictions.
(inscribed at Fort Santiago Walls)
"To foretell the destiny of a nation, it is necessary to open the book that tells of her past."
-- José Rizal, quote inscribed in Fort Santiago
“I die without seeing the dawn brighten over my native land. You who have it to see, welcome it ... and forget not those who have fallen during the night!”
― José Rizal
The WORST that can happen to the Philippines!
"I die just when I see the dawn break,
Through the gloom of night, to herald the day;
And if color is lacking my blood thou shalt take,
Pour'd out at need for thy dear sake,
To dye with its crimson the waking ray".
-My Last Farewell- 1896
There can be no tyrants where there are no slaves.
Jose Rizal
“Ang poot walang nililikha kundi mga dambuhala, mga kasamaan, mga salarin.
Tanging ang tunay na pag-ibig lamang ang nakakalikha ng mga bagay na tunay na kahanga-hanga.”

When the DoDirty Death Squad (DDS) Came...

When they came for drug  addicts
I remained silent,
I wasn't a drug addict.

When they came for street children
I remained silent
I wasn't a street kid.

When  they killed the gang suspects
I remained silent
I felt safer.

When they became bolder and bolder
I remained silent
I wasn't their political opponent.

When they killed innocent people
I remained silent,
I wasn't from Davao.

When they cursed the Pope
I remained silent,
I wasn't a Catholic!

When they came for me
There was no else to speak out!
“The glory of saving a country doesn't mean having to use the measures that contributed to its ruin!”
― José Rizal, El Filibusterismo
“We want the happiness of the Philippines, but we want to obtain it through noble and just means. If I have to commit villainy to make her happy, I would refuse to do so, because I am sure that what is built on sand sooner or later would tumble down.”
