Reflections

“How shall freedom be defended? By arms when it is attacked by arms, by truth when it is attacked by lies, by faith when it is attacked by authoritarian dogma. Always, in the final act, by determination and faith.”

Warning On Photocatalyst & Negative Ion Light Bulbs Sold By MLMs in the Philippines

Warning on ILLUMINATED TiO2 !

TiO2 Photocatalyst In Light Bulbs:May create substances more dangerous than the original pollutant.

Photocatalyst and Negative Ion Bulb From GoodFaith Marketing

"The photocatalyst negative ion light bulb neutralizes the positive ions emitted by appliances such as TVs and computers, and other electrical devices that causes fatigue and stress to humans. By neutralizing these ions using negative ion light bulbs, the air around you will suddenly feel like the outdoors, the same feeling you have when you're near the forest where the air is so cool. Not only does this light bulb eliminate these ions, it also ELIMINATES CIGARETTE SMOKE, and POLLENS which cause asthma to a number of people." From GoodFaith product brochure

TiO2 Photocatalyst In Light Bulbs
One concern raised about the use of TiO2 (Titanium Dioxide)  is the formation of potentially
harmful intermediate products
during the breakdown of organic substances.

Carl Koval, a chemist at the University of
Colorado in Boulder, and others have raised
the concern that the reactions produced by
TiO2 may create substances more dangerous
than the original pollutant.

Says Koval, When illuminated TiO2 is
used to decompose organic compounds, a
large number of intermediate compounds are
usually formed. In some cases, these intermediatecompounds can be more
hazardous than the compound being decomposed.”

For example, he says, the breakdown of TCE
yields trichloroacetic acid (a substance almost
as toxic as TCE) and, in the gaseous phase,
phosgene (a chemical warfare agent).
